Veterans Day

Today isn't just a day off with pay but a day to honor ALL Veterans. I thank all men and women who have served in the military. They are the ones who have give us the freedoms that we so enjoy. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.

My Dad and my Uncle were in the service during WWII. Dad served state side as a guard at prisoner of war camp until almost the end of the war. When Japan surrendered he was aboard a ship with the invasion force on their way to Japan. I'm so glad he didn't have to fight.

My Uncle was with General Patton from landing at Normandy to Berlin. I know he was awarded several medals, the bronze star, the silver star, I'm not for sure what else. When I was a kid I got into his foot locker and found some of the medals. I know the army tried to make him an officer and he turned it down. It was very hard to get him to talk about the war. I know he liberated several concentration camps. He had photographs that he took and a friend developed of those camps. They were horrible, rows and rows of bodies. The people that were left alive were very afraid of the Americans. Uncle said they had to break into their barracks (the Nazis had told them that the Americans were worse than they were) Uncle said they had to give them food and medical aid before they began to believe that they really were free.

These military people fighting in wars go through hell. It changes them forever and they do it to keep this county free. I thank them from the bottom of my heart.

So glad you're blogging now! Welcome! You'll get the hang of it.

Yeah, they don't make them like Poppo and Uncle Harlan anymore. Miss those guys.

My thanks to all veterans also. We are so grateful you do what you do.

I'm totally with you! Our families both have many wonderful veterans, but it seems we are slowly losing what I call The Old Guard.
